In 2024, the office achieved 116 convictions, ensuring justice for victims and promoting community safety. These efforts resulted in $27,450 in fines and $16,240 in court costs collected. Additionally, victims of crimes received $2,857.96 in restitution. Sentencing outcomes included 42 years of probation and 12 years of jail time, reflecting the office’s unwavering commitment to holding offenders accountable.
Efforts to protect the border and community were equally notable. Grant-funded officers working as part of the office’s border initiative contributed to the arrest of 2,198 individuals for misdemeanor offenses. Of these cases, 1,382 resulted in convictions, and offenders served a combined total of 21,367 days in confinement. Law enforcement also recovered $247,950 in forfeited cash and assets, highlighting the impact of these operations in curbing criminal activity along the border.
The office also secured record-breaking financial support through grants. A $5 million grant, the largest ever awarded to the office, along with an additional $275,000 under Senate Bill 22, will ensure continued innovation in prosecution efforts while alleviating taxpayer burdens. These funds will bolster the office’s ability to implement forward-thinking programs and maintain its high standard of service to the community.
Advocating for victims remained a central focus in 2024. The office issued four protective orders to ensure the safety and support of vulnerable individuals. This work underscores the priority placed on protecting victims and ensuring their rights are upheld in the justice system.
The accomplishments of the Maverick County Attorney’s Office in 2024 reflect a year of unparalleled dedication and success. By combining innovative programs with a focus on justice and border security, the office has proven its ability to address the diverse challenges facing the community. As the year comes to a close, residents can take pride in the achievements of their County Attorney’s Office, confident in its commitment to justice and community safety.
