Two Eagle Pass Women Arrested After Child Allegedly Left in Daycare Van for Four Hours
Two Eagle Pass women were arrested after an investigation into a two year old child allegedly left unattended inside a local daycare van for approximately four hours.
EAGLE PASS, Texas — Two Eagle Pass women have been arrested following a months long investigation into an incident in which a two year old child was allegedly left unattended inside a local daycare van for approximately four hours.
According to a media release issued by the Eagle Pass Police Department, the investigation began in May 2026 and resulted in the arrests of 33 year old Jajaira Maria Hernandez and 46 year old Samaria Denise Jimenez.
Investigation Began After May Daycare Incident
Eagle Pass Police said the investigation stemmed from an incident involving a two year old child who was allegedly left unattended inside a local daycare van for approximately four hours.
The police department did not identify the daycare center in its August 29 media release.
The investigation continued for several months before authorities made the arrests.
Two Women Taken Into Custody
On Friday, August 28, 2026, Hernandez and Jimenez were taken into custody without incident during a joint law enforcement operation.
The operation involved the Eagle Pass Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, United States Marshals Service, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas DPS Criminal Investigations Division.
Hernandez Faces Child Endangerment and Evidence Tampering Charges
As a result of the investigation, Hernandez was charged with Abandoning or Endangering a Child, a State Jail Felony, and Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Third Degree Felony.
According to Eagle Pass Police, Hernandez appeared before a magistrate and was remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a combined $50,000 bond.
Jimenez Charged With Tampering With Evidence and Failure to Report
Jimenez was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Third Degree Felony, and Failure to Report a Felony, a Class A Misdemeanor.
Police said Jimenez was also presented before a magistrate and remanded to the Tom Bowles Detention Center. Her combined bond was set at $40,000.
Case to Be Referred for Prosecution
The Eagle Pass Police Department said the case will be referred to the appropriate prosecuting agency for review and prosecution.
Information from the investigation will also be forwarded to the appropriate state licensing and regulatory agencies for further review and any action deemed appropriate regarding the local daycare center.
The department acknowledged the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and Texas Department of Public Safety during the investigation and arrests.
The media release did not provide additional information regarding the condition of the child following the May incident or identify the daycare center involved.
All persons arrested or accused of a criminal offense are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
