Eagle Pass Man Arrested After Alleged High Speed Flight From Police and Attempt to Hide Under Bed
Eagle Pass Police arrested Jose Pacheco after he allegedly fled a traffic stop at high speed, removed his vehicle’s license plates and was later found hiding under a bed.
EAGLE PASS, Texas — An Eagle Pass man faces multiple charges after police say he fled from officers at high speed, nearly struck a patrol unit, removed the license plates from his vehicle and was later discovered hiding underneath a bed.
According to a September 14 media release from the Eagle Pass Police Department, the incident began on September 11, 2026, when officers attempted to stop a blue Ford Mustang for a traffic violation near South Bibb Avenue.
Driver Allegedly Flees From Traffic Stop
Police identified the driver as Jose Pacheco.
According to EPPD, Pacheco allegedly fled from officers at a high rate of speed and nearly struck a police patrol unit while attempting to get away. Officers tracked the Mustang to a residence on Timber Wood Drive.
Police Say License Plates Were Removed
Authorities allege Pacheco removed the Mustang’s license plates after arriving at the residence and then fled inside on foot.
Police did not immediately take Pacheco into custody during the initial encounter.
Officers Return to Residence for Disturbance
Officers later returned to the same residence after receiving a call regarding a disturbance.
During that response, police located Pacheco allegedly hiding underneath a bed and took him into custody.
Pacheco Faces Multiple Charges
According to the Eagle Pass Police Department, Pacheco was booked on charges of Tampering with Physical Evidence, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot.
He also received a citation for Family Violence, classified in the media release as a Class C misdemeanor.
Police reported a $20,000 bond for the Tampering with Physical Evidence charge, a $15,000 bond for Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, and a $5,000 bond for Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot.
The three bonds were designated as no personal recognizance bonds.
Combined Bond Set at $40,000
Pacheco was transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center in lieu of a combined $40,000 bond.
According to EPPD, the cases will be referred to the Maverick County District Attorney’s Office and Maverick County Attorney’s Office for review and possible prosecution.
All persons arrested or accused of a criminal offense are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
