Zavala County Traffic Stop Escalates into High-Stakes Pursuit
Black Porsche Cayenne Driver Apprehended for Smuggling of Persons
Zavala County, TX – A routine traffic stop conducted by Zavala County Deputies on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023, took a dangerous turn as the driver of a black Porsche Cayenne evaded authorities, leading to a high-speed pursuit and eventual arrest. The suspect, identified as Brito Hernandez Leosbel from San Antonio, Texas, now faces charges of smuggling of persons, a second-degree felony.
During the early morning hours the Deputies initiated the traffic stop on US Highway 83 due to a traffic violation. However, instead of complying, the driver failed to yield and sped away, initiating a chase towards Crystal City. The situation intensified as the driver displayed reckless behavior, reaching speeds of up to 112MPH.
In an attempt to immobilize the fleeing vehicle, one of the deputies successfully deployed tire deflation devices, commonly known as stop sticks. The maneuver caused the Porsche Cayenne to momentarily come to a halt, leading some individuals to flee from the vehicle. However, the driver quickly merged back onto the main roadway, continuing their attempt to evade law enforcement.
The pursuit came to an end when the suspect vehicle abruptly entered the Zacate Ranch. Zavala County Deputies promptly apprehended the driver, Brito Hernandez Leosbel, bringing the high-speed chase to a close. Following the arrest, law enforcement officials conducted a thorough inventory of the vehicle before releasing it to Tavo’s Towing.
The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office has charged Mr. Leosbel with smuggling of persons, a second-degree felony. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident and are urging anyone with information related to this case to come forward.
