Maverick County Elections Department Apologizes For Delay In Unofficial Results
The Maverick County Elections Department apologized for the delay in releasing unofficial November 3 general election results citing hand marked ballots that the DS450 central counting machine could not properly read.
EAGLE PASS, Texas – The Maverick County Elections Department apologized to the community candidates and voters for the delay in releasing unofficial results of the November 3 2026 General Election according to an official public statement from Elections Administrator Marianna Flores Garcia.
The primary cause of the delay occurred during ballot tabulation according to the statement. Certain hand marked paper ballots could not be properly read by the county DS450 central counting machine because some selections were not completely or correctly filled in. Those ballots required additional attention and processing under established election procedures the department said.

The department said Maverick County uses a hand marked paper based voting system and that ballots must be physically handled and scanned through central counting equipment. Reporting times can vary depending on equipment ballot volume and circumstances during tabulation according to the statement. Poll watchers were present during the central counting process the department said.
The statement also addressed concerns about how unofficial results were announced. The public was notified by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day that results would be announced through a live broadcast according to the department. The live broadcast was intended to provide an organized way to communicate results while reducing noise interruptions and confusion during the announcement the statement said.
“Accuracy transparency and the integrity of our elections will always remain our highest priorities” the statement said. Flores Garcia thanked election workers for their dedication and long hours of service.
Final unofficial county results posted later showed Gerardo Jerry Morales winning the Maverick County judge race with 8,352 votes.
