The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department announced on Thursday that the body of Lazaro Jaime Melchor, a man who went missing three weeks ago, was found on Wednesday evening in the Rosita Valley sector. Melchor, who was last seen in the vicinity of the Kickapoo Tribe Reservation, was discovered on a vacant property along Rosita Valley Road.

Authorities reported that Melchor’s body was partially buried, suggesting an attempt to conceal the remains. Additionally, the condition of the body indicated that he had been dismembered, leading investigators to determine that this was indeed a murder case.

Ongoing Investigation

The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding Melchor’s death. The body has been sent to the Laredo Forensics Department to establish the official cause of death, which may provide further clues to assist in the investigation.

Melchor was reported missing on September 4th after his vehicle was found near the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas reservation in the Rosita Valley area. His family, along with local authorities, had been searching for him for over two weeks without any leads, and concerns about foul play grew as the days passed.

FBI Involvement

The FBI’s San Antonio Division confirmed through a statement to the News Gram that they were conducting “court-authorized, law enforcement activity in the vicinity of Kickapoo land.” Trista Moxley, Public Affairs Specialist for the FBI San Antonio Division, added that no additional information could be shared at this time.

Transition to a Murder Investigation

What initially began as a missing person case has now transitioned into a murder investigation following the discovery of Melchor’s remains. Local law enforcement and federal authorities are continuing to work together to uncover the circumstances that led to this tragic outcome.

The discovery and nature of the body have left the community in shock, raising concerns about safety in the Rosita Valley area. Maverick County officials are urging anyone with information related to this case to come forward as the investigation continues.
