La Pryor Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest and Firearm Seizure on US Highway 57

LA PRYOR, Texas — A Saturday morning traffic stop in La Pryor led to the arrest of a woman and the seizure of a firearm after Zavala County deputies reportedly detected the odor of marijuana coming from a vehicle.

According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies J. Camarillo and J. Jimenez were patrolling US Highway 57 on July 4, 2026, when they observed a black Lexus sedan with multiple objects hanging from the rearview mirror and allegedly obstructing the driver’s view through the windshield.

Deputies Conduct Traffic Stop in La Pryor

Deputies initiated a traffic stop, and the Lexus came to a stop near the intersection of South Estes and US Highway 57.

The driver was identified as Destiny Nicole Schneider, while the passenger was identified as Jacob Fidel Escobar.

Deputies Report Strong Odor of Marijuana

While speaking with the occupants, deputies reportedly detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Both Schneider and Escobar were asked to exit the vehicle while deputies conducted what authorities described as a probable cause search.

Firearm, Marijuana, and Cash Reportedly Located

During the search, deputies reportedly located a firearm inside the glovebox.

Authorities also reported finding a small plastic baggie containing marijuana in the center console.

In the rear seating area, deputies reportedly discovered a shoebox containing a large amount of one dollar bills totaling approximately $500.

Driver Claims Ownership of Firearm and Marijuana

According to authorities, Schneider claimed ownership of both the firearm and the marijuana.

She was placed under arrest and transported to the Zavala County Jail.

Charges Filed Following Investigation

Schneider faces charges of Possession of Marijuana Less Than Two Ounces and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.

The vehicle was released at the scene to Escobar at Schneider’s request.

The investigation remains subject to further court proceedings.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
