Traffic Stop Turns Into Pursuit Near Maverick County Line as Zavala County Deputy Arrests Driver
ZAVALA COUNTY, Texas — A routine traffic stop turned into a vehicle pursuit Thursday morning after a driver allegedly fled from a Zavala County Sheriff’s Office deputy near the intersection of US Highway 57 and US Highway 83.
According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy T. Loera #729 attempted to stop a black 2015 Ford Mustang at approximately 11:59 a.m. on July 2, 2026.

Authorities said the vehicle was initially stopped after allegedly failing to stop at a posted stop sign, a violation of the Texas Transportation Code.
Driver Allegedly Flees as Deputy Approaches Vehicle
Deputy Loera reportedly exited her patrol unit and began approaching the Mustang when the driver suddenly accelerated away from the scene.
The action initiated a vehicle pursuit.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Loera pursued the vehicle westbound with emergency lights and sirens activated.

Pursuit Continues Toward Maverick County Line
The pursuit continued westbound toward the Maverick County line.
Authorities said that approximately one mile east of the county line, the driver attempted to make a U-turn in an alleged effort to evade law enforcement.
Deputy Loera reportedly positioned her patrol unit to block the vehicle and prevent the driver from escaping.
The driver was then safely taken into custody.
Driver Identified Following Arrest
Authorities identified the driver as Mario Eduardo Padilla Rodriguez of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico.
According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, Padilla Rodriguez was determined to be in the United States illegally.
He was transported to the Zavala County Jail and booked without further incident.
Mustang Towed Following Investigation
The black 2015 Ford Mustang was inventoried in accordance with department policy.
Authorities said the vehicle was then removed from the scene by Tavo’s Wrecker Service.
