Maverick County Sheriff’s Office Makes Narcotics Arrest After Call to Local Hemp Business
EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Maverick County Sheriff’s Office made a narcotics arrest after deputies responded to a local hemp business regarding two unwanted female subjects at the location.
According to information provided by Chief Deputy Roberto De Leon, deputies arrived at the business at around 3 in the morning and made contact with a silver SUV that was attempting to leave the parking lot.

During the investigation, deputies contacted the female driver, who stated that she had picked up a friend from the location and was preparing to leave the area.
As the investigation continued, deputies reportedly observed several pills in plain view on the driver’s seat. Deputies also located two clear plastic baggies near the driver’s side area of the vehicle.
According to Chief Deputy De Leon, one of the baggies contained a crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine, while the second baggie contained a dark, sticky substance consistent with heroin.
The driver was identified as Sonya Cantu.

Cantu was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance. She was transported to the Tom Bowles Detention Center for processing.
The suspected narcotics were collected, tagged as evidence, and placed into the evidence locker pending laboratory analysis and further investigation.
Chief De Leon tells us that the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to combating illegal narcotics activity and protecting the safety and well-being of Maverick County residents.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
