Southwest Texas College Confirms Student Death Following Incident on Uvalde Campus
UVALDE, Texas — Southwest Texas College has confirmed that an incident on its Uvalde campus resulted in the death of one student and injuries to another.
The college released a statement Tuesday confirming that emergency responders were dispatched to the campus following the incident. The injured student was transported for medical treatment while authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding what occurred.

College officials have not released the identities of either student involved and have provided limited information as the investigation remains active.

In its statement, Southwest Texas College said it is cooperating fully with law enforcement authorities and emphasized that the safety and well being of students, employees, and visitors remains a top priority.
“Out of respect for the students and their families, the College will not release additional details or identify those involved at this time,” the statement said.
The college also extended its condolences to the family and friends of the student who died.
The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the Uvalde community and among students attending the college. Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of death, the nature of the injuries sustained by the second student, or whether any criminal investigation is underway.
Southwest Texas College President Hector Gonzales stated that additional information will be released when appropriate and consistent with privacy protections.
As of Tuesday evening, law enforcement officials had not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
