Maverick County Constable Precinct 4 Office Neutralizes County Courthouse Threat

MAVERICK COUNTY, TEXAS — A coordinated law enforcement response led by the Maverick County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 successfully neutralized a serious threat against the Maverick County Courthouse on Wednesday, resulting in the apprehension of a suspect identified as David Garcia. The incident involved disturbing threats of violence toward courthouse staff and their families and prompted swift action by local authorities, including a deputized county official.
According to an official report, the threats originated from a series of phone calls placed by Garcia to courthouse personnel throughout the day. In one of the calls, Garcia allegedly became increasingly agitated and began issuing violent threats. He is reported to have said that he would “come shoot up the courthouse or fight with the staff,” further escalating the situation by stating, “Give me a list of your families so I can take care of them.”
The courthouse employee handling the call acted immediately, alerting authorities and placing the caller on hold to prevent further escalation. The Maverick County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 responded without delay, locating Garcia at La Quintas, where he was taken into custody without incident.
In a show of interdepartmental cooperation and civic duty, Maverick County Veterans Service Office Director Mike Chavez, who had recently been deputized, joined in the response efforts to safeguard the courthouse and ensure the protection of all personnel. Chavez’s participation was praised by officials, who emphasized the importance of unity and preparedness when facing threats to public institutions.
Officials noted that Garcia had contacted the courthouse on prior occasions in an agitated state, though this is the first time he made explicit and direct threats. The severity of the situation demanded heightened security protocols and immediate law enforcement intervention.
The Maverick County Courthouse remains operational, with enhanced security measures in place to protect staff and visitors. Authorities are urging the public to address grievances through lawful and civil channels, emphasizing that threats of violence will be met with swift legal consequences.
Thanks are extended to the Maverick County Constable’s Office Precinct 4 and Director Mike Chavez for their rapid response and commitment to public safety. Their actions helped prevent what could have become a dangerous crisis and reinforced the importance of community vigilance in protecting local institutions.
