Eagle Pass, Texas — The State of Texas is escalating its efforts to secure its southern border with the establishment of a new forward operating base in Eagle Pass. Announced by Governor Greg Abbott in coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard, this move is part of the ongoing Operation Lone Star, aimed at bolstering border security and combating transnational crime.

Since its inception, Operation Lone Star has been a cornerstone in Texas’ strategy to enhance border security, leading to over 509,500 apprehensions of illegal immigrants and more than 42,100 criminal arrests. The operation has also been instrumental in intercepting significant quantities of illicit substances, including over 476 million lethal doses of fentanyl.

Governor Abbott’s office highlighted that the base will serve as a critical point for law enforcement efforts to prevent smuggling of drugs, weapons, and people into the state. “Our goal is clear – to stop the chaos at our southern border and restore order. This base will act as a crucial hub for our brave officers doing their utmost to protect Texans and all Americans from criminal activities spurred by unchecked border crossings,” stated Governor Abbott.

In response to what the state perceives as federal inaction, Texas has also taken proactive measures by transporting over 113,600 migrants to various U.S. cities since April 2022. These moves are seen as a direct challenge to the Biden Administration’s border policies, which Texas officials argue have left dangerous gaps in national security.

The forward operating base in Eagle Pass is expected to further solidify Texas’ defense against the flow of illegal activities, ensuring that fewer harmful substances and individuals engaged in criminal activities enter the community. This initiative underscores Texas’ commitment to its security mandate and highlights the state’s proactive stance in dealing with immigration and border-related challenges.

Operation Lone Star continues to be a pivotal element in Texas’ comprehensive approach to border security, reflecting the state’s resolve to protect its borders and ensure the safety of its residents in the face of federal policy gaps.
