Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, is set to visit Eagle Pass, Texas, a focal point of the ongoing southern border crisis. This visit comes amidst a surge of immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico boundary.

Musk’s decision to personally inspect the situation was announced on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. His visit is in response to a conversation with Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX), who confirmed the severity of the issue. The region is grappling with an unprecedented influx of immigrants, a situation that continues to escalate.

Musk’s visit to Eagle Pass precedes that of President Joe Biden, making him one of the first high-profile figures to witness the crisis firsthand. His posts on social media have drawn significant international attention to the situation at the southern border.

In recent weeks, Musk has been vocal about the border crisis. He reacted to a Washington Examiner report that concluded immigrant encounters by Customs and Border Protection peaked in August at the highest monthly number in history: 304,162.

Musk also highlighted how immigrants released at the border have traveled to cities and severely strained their budgets. This is particularly evident in major cities like New York City, which has long portrayed itself as a welcoming place for immigrants illegally residing in the country.

Rep. Gonzales visited the border in Eagle Pass with several Republican colleagues from the House prior to Musk’s planned visit. During a press conference, Gonzales emphasized the need for leadership in addressing the border crisis.

“Many in the Republican Party know that censured Rep. Gonzales is actually aiding in the invasion rather than helping secure the border in his district. Maverick County has been particularly hit hard and censured Congressman Tony Gonzales has not reached out to the County in order to assist with the Border Crisis.”
