Ruben J. Camarillo has announced that he has registered as a candidate for City Council Place 3 in Eagle Pass.

Hello citizens of eagle pass, my name is Ruben Joshua Camarillo, and I am running for city council place 3. I was born in Palm Springs; CA. I am currently 34 years of age. I have an 8-year-old son and I am engaged to my Fiancé Jacqueline. During my early years, I have worked customer service roles, which was how I learned to speak and interact with people. I worked with my father as an apprentice in the electrical field where I learned the basics of construction and safety protocols. I enlisted in the U.S Army at age 25 as a signal support systems specialist. During that time, I was promoted to Sergeant and learned the leadership skills and technical knowledge to be responsible for the well-being of soldiers. In 2019 I exited the military and moved here to Eagle Pass, TX. I am now a parent volunteer at San Luis Elementary School and a college student at Southwest Texas Junior College.

I want to run for city council because I feel in my heart that this city, which is now my home and the home of my son, deserves the best leadership possible. During my short time living here in Eagle Pass, I have felt very fortunate to be able to partake in the many family-oriented gifts this city has to offer. From stock shows and other festivities to phenomenal small businesses, and to the warm welcoming people who made me feel at home. However, according to many of the citizens that I have met, there are still issues that are potentially detrimental to this community which are made small by of some our leadership.  Issues such as Extremely low budget and dangerous construction within our residential areas but extravagantly high 7.6-million-dollar hotels. Hotels are great for those who want to visit and invest our city, but I feel that the safety and well-being of the citizens who live here must come first. As councilman, I will do whatever is in my power to bring quality back to our city while maintaining a stable budget.

I have learned that “Transparency” is a word that citizens feel has been overused in past campaigns of past leadership. It is frustrating not knowing if our leadership is doing the right thing or holding themselves accountable for human errors and mistakes. As councilman, I will ensure that the people are well informed and never left in the dark. And if I am legally unable to do so, then the people will be informed as to why. As a leader, I will hold myself as well as other leadership accountable when it comes to upholding the law. No exceptions, no excuses.

The lack of communication between leadership and its citizens has caused people to lose the will to address issues in citizens communications meetings. The lack of communication is also due to not being available. Having a career and other obligations is part of the American way of life, however, I feel that being a public servant requires full time dedication and sacrifice to be able to take care of the needs of the community. As councilman, I will always put my community first before myself and with the time and energy that I have, I will strive to be available as much as humanly possible.

Lastly, everyone deserves happiness, prosperity, and job opportunities that this city offers.  It is human nature to want to give and take care of our friends and loved ones. However, as a public servant, your obligation is to everyone in the community. As councilman, I will do whatever I can to ensure that everyone who is qualified for a city position has a fair chance at getting the opportunity to work for the city.

The constitution gives power to the people not its government. I will do whatever I can to strengthen the voices of this community as it should have been in the first place. This community is powerful. It takes care of its own no matter what the situation. From snowstorms to unfortunate losses, the people of this great city always take care of each other. But its time for its leaders to take care of the people. City council are the guardians who must protect its people. they must unite to succeed. I will do my best to work with my fellow councilmen and council women to ensure the community’s progress. No matter our differences or beliefs, no matter what political parties we follow or how we think, our community and its leadership must unite as one because our community is “stronger together.”
