CITY FINANCE DIRECTOR PROPOSES INCREASE IN FEES FOR GARBAGE COLLECTION
The City of Eagle Pass held a City Council Meeting on Tuesday to discuss the budget. The City’s Finance Director, Jesse Rodriguez, caught everyone in the council chambers off guard when he proposed an increase of fees for Garbage Collection. The proposal sees the county residents being increased a significant amount with city residents receiving a notable bump in fees as well. Mayor Salinas and Councilman Elias Diaz, expressed their concern with the increase and the difference in cost between city and county.
The City of Eagle Pass has been managing the solid waste collections for the city since 2007. Hector Chavez, the Public Works Director with the approval of Mayor Chad Foster and City Council that included Ramsey English Cantu moved to take over the trash collections operations after Waste Management raised their rates on the city and county. The decision has continued to save city and county residents on solid waste collection for the past 15 years.
Current rates: City $13.50/month County $16.50/month
Proposed rates: City $14.50/month County $20.50
