DEL RIO, Texas — A Del Rio man was arrested on multiple felony charges following a domestic violence investigation that police say involved an alleged assault, violation of a protective order, narcotics possession, and a vehicle collision that placed a victim in fear of serious bodily injury or death.

According to the Del Rio Police Department, officers responded to the 1600 block of Veterans Boulevard at approximately 11:45 p.m. on May 29, 2026, after receiving a disturbance call.

Police said the caller, identified as Luis Abel Hernandez, reported that he was following a former household member whom he claimed was operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

Investigators determined that officers had previously responded to a separate call at a residence in the 100 block of Encinal Street where Hernandez allegedly forced entry into the home. Witnesses reportedly told officers that Hernandez removed several cell phones and caused bodily injury to a female before leaving the location.

During the investigation, officers learned Hernandez was subject to an active Emergency Protective Order that prohibited him from committing acts of violence against household members.

Authorities allege Hernandez violated the court order and placed him under arrest.

A search of Hernandez reportedly revealed a vial containing a green leafy substance initially believed to be marijuana. Officers also conducted a search of his vehicle and allegedly discovered a small baggie containing a crystal-like substance.

Police said further investigation determined Hernandez intentionally struck the female’s vehicle twice, causing the vehicles to collide. Investigators allege the actions placed the victim in fear of serious bodily injury or death.

After being transported to the police station, the green leafy substance reportedly tested negative for marijuana. The crystal-like substance later tested positive for cocaine, according to authorities.

Luis Abel Hernandez, 34, was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Assault Causing Bodily Injury, and four counts of Violation of Bond or Protective Order.
