Maverick County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Kitchen Worker for Improper Relationship With Inmate
EAGLE PASS, TX — A woman employed by the food service provider at the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office jail was arrested after deputies discovered she had an intimate relationship with an inmate, a violation that authorities say posed a serious security risk.
The incident occurred on November 26, according to Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Roberto De León. The employee, identified as Elizabeth Hernández, was observed through jail surveillance cameras engaging in prohibited contact with an incarcerated individual.

Improper Contact Discovered Through Surveillance
Jail staff monitoring cameras alerted supervisors after observing Hernández establishing personal and intimate contact with an inmate. Such actions are strictly prohibited under jail policy due to the security threats they create, including the potential for contraband, manipulation, or compromise of staff safety.
Chief Deputy De León stated that Hernández was immediately detained once the activity was confirmed. She now faces a criminal charge for having intimate and personal contact with a prisoner, and her bond was set at $5,000.

Sheriff’s Office Requests Her Removal From Facility
Following her arrest, the Sheriff’s administration contacted the private company responsible for food services at the jail and requested that Hernández be permanently removed from future assignments at the facility.
Authorities emphasized that quick administrative and law enforcement action is essential to maintain internal safety. Allowing non-custodial employees to engage in prohibited conduct with inmates can expose staff, inmates, and the public to significant risks.
Information on the Inmate
The inmate involved in the incident is an immigrant currently in federal custody. According to the Sheriff’s Office, he will be turned over to ICE for deportation proceedings. No further information has been released about his criminal case or immigration status.
