UPDATED: RESIDENTS COMPLAIN ABOUT CITY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT “MAYOR SALINAS DOES NOT ANSWER OUR CALLS”
Residents of the City of Eagle Pass have begun calling in complaints about a construction project by the City that is well passed the projected construction completion date. The construction project was announced on August 30, 2022 by the City of Eagle Pass through their Facebook page. The construction announcement states that the construction would begin immediately and be completed by September 9, 2022, closing down a high traffic Misty Willow Street.
The on the spot live video by The Maverick Times reveled the construction site unsafe and with a multitude of unsound construction practices. The construction site is in the vicinity of three schools, a junior high school, a high school and an elementary school. In the video you can see the conditions of construction site and the danger it presents as rebar is left uncapped and the safety fence missing in concerning areas. The construction project is nearing 5 months over the project completion date. Several residents have stated they have tried to reach City of Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas without any luck. Residents are growing frustrated with the situation they have been left in by the City.
This is just the latest mishap from the City of Eagle Pass and the Engineering Department headed by City Engineer Dan McGee. We reached out to Mayor Rolando Salinas for comment, here was his response:
That project was put out for bids, I believe 3 companies put in bids. As a council we went with The lowest bid. They had to have a bond for the project. By contact that had a certain time to complete. Simply put they didn’t and now the city is going after the bond posted to have another company complete project. I’ve explained this to residents and I get it it’s frustrating for people that live in the area. But that’s the update on that.
