EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department, working alongside the Texas Rangers, arrested Agustin Alvar III Tuesday morning at a residence in the Eagle Point Ranch area. Chief Deputy Roberto de Leon confirmed the arrest, stating Alvar is facing charges of sexual assault and sexual performance by a child. Both offenses are among the most severe under Texas law and carry potential decades-long prison sentences if a conviction is secured.

Alvar is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Arrest in July

Tuesday’s arrest comes only weeks after a separate case brought Alvar into police custody. In July, officers with the Eagle Pass Police Department’s K9 Interdiction Unit conducted a routine traffic stop on a Chevrolet Corvette. Police Chief Amy Gonzalez confirmed the stop was initiated for a reported traffic violation.

Officers identified the driver as 50-year-old Agustin Alvar III. A background check revealed an active warrant tied to a felony theft investigation launched in May 2025. Detectives alleged that Alvar unlawfully withdrew more than $27,000 from a local business account without the knowledge or consent of the business owner.

Investigators said the transactions were unauthorized and that evidence was being prepared for submission to the Maverick County District Attorney’s Office. The charge in that case was classified as a State Jail Felony under Texas law.

Alvar was booked at the Eagle Pass Police Department and appeared before a local Justice of the Peace. He was later released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond pending further legal proceedings.

Escalating Legal Troubles

The charges filed this week significantly increase the seriousness of Alvar’s legal situation. Sexual assault and sexual performance by a child are classified as high-level felonies in Texas, carrying the possibility of decades in prison.

Authorities have not released further details about the investigation that led to this arrest. The Maverick County Sheriff’s Department and Texas Rangers continue to coordinate with the Maverick County District Attorney’s Office as the case develops.

Presumption of Innocence

Officials emphasize that Alvar remains innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. The Maverick Times will continue to follow developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
