EAGLE PASS, TEXAS — A Maverick County jury has found Juan Carrizales guilty of Evading Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, bringing closure to a years-long case that began with a dramatic police pursuit and ended in a courtroom conviction.

On July 1, 2025, after a two-day trial, jurors returned a unanimous guilty verdict against Carrizales. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Ruben Ramos and Hugo Zapata of the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charges date back to August 31, 2020, when deputies from the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop Carrizales for allegedly violating a protective order. Rather than comply, Carrizales fled in a vehicle, leading authorities on a dangerous high-speed pursuit. He ultimately abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot into a nearby area, vanishing for four days before finally being captured.

Evidence presented at trial included body camera and dashcam footage that captured the chase in detail. Prosecutors argued that Carrizales knowingly and recklessly endangered the public while attempting to escape law enforcement. The jury agreed, finding him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

“This case sends a clear message, if you break the law and run, we will find you and hold you accountable,” stated the 293rd District Attorney’s Office following the verdict.

Carrizales is now awaiting sentencing, scheduled for August 29, 2025, where he faces a punishment ranging from 2 to 20 years in prison.

Officials credited the successful outcome to the joint effort of law enforcement and legal staff, including the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office and the support team at the 293rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

“The people of Maverick County deserve to feel safe. When individuals endanger our community, there will be consequences,” prosecutors added.
