On October 11th, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers apprehended a large group of 165 illegal immigrants in Quemado, a small community just outside of Eagle Pass. According to Lt. Chris Olivarez, our source from the Texas DPS, among those apprehended were 14 Special Interest Immigrants from countries such as Iran, Egypt, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Special Interest Immigrants are individuals from nations flagged for national security concerns, adding heightened awareness to this apprehension.

DPS troopers also made 57 arrests for criminal trespass, with those detained hailing from a wide array of countries, including Peru, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, and Ecuador.

Lt. Olivarez further reported that among the 165 apprehended individuals, 29 were unaccompanied children and minors between the ages of 10 and 17. These minors are being processed by child protective services and immigration authorities, and their future care will be determined in accordance with U.S. immigration policies.

This large apprehension highlights the increasing complexities of border enforcement in South Texas. With the presence of Special Interest Immigrants from flagged countries and the rise in criminal trespass arrests, the situation along the Texas-Mexico border continues to present significant security challenges for law enforcement agencies.

Authorities are focusing their efforts on maintaining security in the region while ensuring that unaccompanied minors receive proper care and processing. As border-related apprehensions grow, operations like these underscore the ongoing efforts by DPS troopers to manage both national security risks and humanitarian concerns at the U.S. southern border.
