Texas DPS Troopers Stop Human Smuggling Attempt in Maverick County

EAGLE PASS, Texas — August 25, 2025. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers disrupted a human smuggling attempt on U.S. Highway 277 in Maverick County, leading to the arrests of two men from North Texas.
According to DPS, troopers stopped a Chevrolet 1500 pickup and discovered two illegal immigrants from Ecuador concealed under the back seat. The cramped hiding arrangement posed serious risks to the individuals’ safety.
The driver, Christopher Allen Page of Royse City, Texas, and passenger, Jeremy Dale Hooten of Greenville, Texas, were taken into custody. Both now face felony human smuggling charges.
The two Ecuadorian nationals were turned over to U.S. Border Patrol for processing.

DPS Statement on Border Security
DPS officials said the case highlights the ongoing dangers of human smuggling operations, which often place lives at risk in order to evade law enforcement.
“Troopers remain on the front lines of Operation Lone Star, working to dismantle smuggling networks and protect Texans,” DPS said in a statement.
