EAGLE PASS, TX — The United States House of Representatives has implemented new congressional district boundaries in Texas, resulting in a significant change for Maverick County. According to the latest redistricting maps, Maverick County is now divided between U.S. Congressional District 23 and U.S. Congressional District 28.

This change means residents in different parts of Maverick County will now be represented by two separate members of Congress:

District 23: Represented by Tony Gonzales (R)

Congressman Tony Gonzales has represented Texas’s 23rd Congressional District since 2021. The district covers a large stretch of the U.S.-Mexico border and includes parts of west and south Texas. Gonzales, a U.S. Navy veteran, has focused his legislative efforts on border security, veterans’ affairs, and economic development in rural communities.

District 28: Represented by Henry Cuellar (D)

Congressman Henry Cuellar, a long-time incumbent, continues to serve Texas’s 28th Congressional District. Cuellar’s district includes Laredo, parts of San Antonio, and now a portion of Maverick County. Known for his centrist views, Cuellar frequently emphasizes border trade, law enforcement partnerships, and education funding.

What This Means for Voters

The redistricting alters political representation and could impact local priorities, funding opportunities, and how Maverick County voices are heard in Washington, D.C. Residents are encouraged to verify which congressional district they now reside in by visiting the Texas Secretary of State’s website or contacting the local elections office.

Public Awareness and Engagement

County officials and community leaders are expected to provide voter education materials ahead of upcoming elections to ensure residents understand the changes and know who represents them in Congress.
