Eagle Pass ISD Issues Reminder on Vaping Policy and Consequences for Students
Eagle Pass Independent School District (EPISD) has issued a firm reminder to students and families regarding its zero-tolerance policy on vaping within all district facilities. Amid growing concerns over the health risks and legal implications associated with vaping, EPISD is taking proactive steps to address the issue and ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for all students.
Vaping devices, which include e-cigarettes and other similar products, are strictly prohibited on all EPISD campuses at all times. In a recent statement, the district emphasized that any student found in possession of a vaping device will face serious consequences. These may include placement in the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP), a disciplinary action reserved for significant infractions.
Additionally, campus administration is required to refer all vaping-related incidents to the Eagle Pass ISD Police Department. These referrals may lead to law enforcement issuing felony charges, depending on the circumstances. The district’s partnership with law enforcement underscores its commitment to tackling the vaping issue head-on and discouraging students from engaging in this harmful behavior.
EPISD is also urging parents and guardians to speak to their children about the dangers of vaping. The district emphasizes that vaping poses serious health risks, particularly for young people. Nicotine addiction, respiratory issues, and exposure to harmful chemicals are among the many dangers associated with vaping. Beyond health concerns, students should also be made aware of the potential legal consequences and disciplinary actions that may follow.
“As always, we appreciate the partnership with all families and EPISD regarding our students,” the statement reads. “By working together, we can help educate and protect our students from the dangers of vaping and ensure that our campuses remain safe and supportive environments.”
The district’s firm stance on vaping comes as schools nationwide grapple with the rise of e-cigarette use among teens. EPISD is committed to enforcing its no-vaping policy and providing resources to educate students and families about the risks involved.
