The speaker said the inquiry will be led by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., in coordination with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Ways & Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, R-Mo.
McCarthy did not say whether he would hold a floor vote before opening the inquiry, but he did say that the inquiry would give House committees “the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public.”

The announcement comes after months of investigations by GOP-led committees into Biden’s family’s business dealings. The investigations have focused on Hunter Biden’s work on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings while his father was vice president.
McCarthy said that the investigations have uncovered “evidence of wrongdoing” by the Biden family, but he did not provide specific details.
The announcement of the impeachment inquiry is likely to further escalate tensions between Democrats and Republicans in Congress. Democrats have accused Republicans of engaging in a partisan witch hunt, while Republicans have said that the inquiry is necessary to investigate serious allegations of corruption.
