A Dimmit County Sergeant conducted a traffic stop on a Budget Box Truck on US Highway 85, West of Big Wells, Texas. Upon identifying the driver, the male subject was showing as a wanted subject out of Bexar County for discharge of a firearm.

Upon consent to search the vehicle, a hidden compartment was found in the rear of the box truck. In that hidden compartment, five undocumented illegal aliens were rescued from the extreme heat and unsafe conditions. The male driver was arrested for smuggling of persons as well as for the active warrant out of Bexar County.

The five undocumented immigrants were transported to a local hospital for evaluation. They were all in good condition and were later released to the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

This is the latest in a series of smuggling incidents in the area. In July, a similar traffic stop led to the rescue of 10 undocumented immigrants from a hidden compartment in a vehicle.

The Dimmit County Sheriff’s Office is working with ICE to investigate this incident and to identify any other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
