LARGE INCREASE IN APPREHENSIONS AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AT DEL RIO BORDER PATROL SECTOR: WEEKLY RECAP (04/02/23 – 04/08/23)
Del Rio Sector Border Patrol agents have reported a significant increase in migrant apprehensions and criminal activity during the week of April 2-8, 2023. According to the weekly recap released by the U.S. Border Patrol Del Rio Sector, a total of 4,472 apprehensions were made, along with 2,088 known gotaways.
Out of the total number of apprehensions, six individuals were identified as criminals, including three sex offenders, one homicide suspect, one gang member, and one first-degree murder suspect. The increased presence of these individuals highlights the need for strict border security measures to prevent potentially dangerous individuals from entering the United States.
In addition to the criminal activity, one large group of migrants was apprehended, indicating the ongoing efforts of organized smuggling groups to bring large numbers of individuals across the border. Agents also recorded 94 smuggling cases, highlighting the persistent threat of human trafficking across the border.
In a concerning development, three firearms were seized during the week, raising fears of potential violence and the use of firearms by criminal groups operating along the border.
