SENATE DEMOCRATS INTRODUCED CANNABIS LEGISLATION LAST WEEK
Cannabis legislation was introduced in the Senate last week that aims to remove the federal prohibition on marijuana. The act would decimalization marijuana on the federal level and allow states to set their own marijuana laws without fear of federal punishment according to Politico.
A group of Democrat Senators including Chuck Schumer (D-NY) release a Discussion Draft on the Cannabis and Opportunity Act over a year ago. The 30 page document summary outlines what is included decimalization, restorative justice opportunity programs, taxation and public health administration of cannabis.
Support for the Cannabis and Opportunity Act is not currently clear in the Senate but the House already passed the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act in April with a vote of 220-204.
