POLICE DEPARTMENT ASSISTS US BORDER PATROL DETAINING 300 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS NEAR LOOP 480 SOUTH
The Eagle Pass Police Department has been keeping busy patrolling and protecting the residents within the city limits. Many may not be aware that police officers on the border are being ask to go above and beyond the call of duty because of the current border crisis. Today EPPD Officers assigned to Stone Garden assisted U.S. Border Patrol in the detainment of almost 300 illegal migrants on the southside near Loop 480 South. Similar apprehensions hare happening all across the southern border.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Del Rio Sector has the second highest number of encounters in the Southwest Land Border Region this year. The overwhelming majority of the people being encountered in the region are single adults. Groups of illegal migrants continue their way through Mexico preparing to illegally cross in the United States.
Videos posted on social media sites show the large groups headed towards the country. Reports show that the U.S. has reached a fourth consecutive record breaking month of encounters. There is no indication that this trend will slow down any time soon.
