Eagle Pass Police Documented Alleged Threat by Enriqueta Diaz Weeks Ago, Media Coverage Limited

According to Eagle Pass Texas News, several weeks ago, a Maverick County Commissioner filed an official report with the Eagle Pass Police Department. He alleged that former County Judge Enriqueta Diaz threatened him inside the Maverick County Courthouse. Sources say the commissioner claimed Diaz approached him unexpectedly, invaded his personal space, and threatened to “cut his testicles off.” The incident occurred earlier, but media coverage has been limited. Details are only now coming to light.

Witnesses described the incident as hostile and unprovoked. It prompted a call for police assistance at the time. Officers arrived after Diaz had left the scene. No arrests were made. Law enforcement documented the event in an informational police report.

Courthouse Confrontation Raises Safety Concerns

Witnesses at the courthouse corroborated the commissioner’s account. They described Diaz’s remarks as aggressive and inappropriate. One observer noted that the exchange was unusually hostile compared to typical political disputes in the area.

Diaz has clashed with county officials in the past. She served as Maverick County Judge and has remained a prominent figure in local politics. She often challenges elected leaders on various issues.

The incident has sparked concern among courthouse staff and officials. Many question whether such behavior crosses a legal threshold. Political disagreements are common, but verbal threats in a government building could have legal consequences. The limited media attention has raised questions about why the incident was not widely reported at the time.

Law Enforcement Response and Legal Implications

The Eagle Pass Police Department confirmed receiving a call regarding the alleged threat weeks ago. Officers responded to the scene but could not locate Diaz. The commissioner has not yet pressed charges. The incident was documented for potential future action.

Under Texas law, verbal threats causing someone to fear for their safety may constitute a criminal offense. The circumstances and credibility of the threat determine this. It remains unclear whether the commissioner plans to pursue legal action or if the case will escalate. The delay in public awareness has added complexity to the situation.

Political Tensions in Maverick County

The confrontation has fueled discussions within Maverick County’s political circles. Tensions between elected officials and activists have occasionally boiled over. The limited media coverage has led to speculation about the reasons behind the silence. Some express concern that public discourse is becoming increasingly hostile.

Local leaders have voiced concerns. One courthouse observer remarked that politics can get ugly, but personal threats cross a line.

Diaz has not publicly commented on the allegations. The Eagle Pass Police Department encourages anyone with additional information to come forward.

Will There Be Legal Consequences?

This incident highlights broader concerns about accountability in public office and the role of activism in local politics. The delay in media coverage raises additional questions. Should verbal altercations involving current or former officials be treated with greater scrutiny? Why was the incident not widely reported earlier?

Key questions remain:

  • Will the commissioner pursue charges against Diaz?
  • Should law enforcement address political threats with greater urgency?
  • What does this incident reveal about the political climate in Maverick County? Why was media coverage delayed?

Diaz remains a polarizing figure in local affairs. It is yet to be determined whether this courthouse exchange will lead to legal consequences or become another chapter in the county’s ongoing political battles.

  1. I have a lot of respect for Queta. I have known her for several years. In my experience, I have come to understand that she has an undying love for our community.
In this instance, I suggest that someone instigated the situation to escalate it, knowing quite well that she would respond. I have heard it has happened before. Then they fear retribution.
