Eagle Pass, Texas, has declared a state of emergency due to a surge in illegal migration. Over 7,000 undocumented migrants have crossed through the city in the last 72 hours.
On Wednesday morning, United States Border Patrol reported that a group of over 2,000 undocumented migrants seeking asylum inundated the Port of Entry No. 2 area. The caravan was then staged under bridge No. 2 as they awaited arrival of government transport buses to transport them to the Soft Sided Detention Center in Northern Maverick County where they will be processed.

Authorities are overwhelmed, as they have been battling illegal crossings and human smuggling at this level for several years along the Del Rio Border Sector. Community residents are also up to their ears with having to live through this on a daily basis.
On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas declared our community in a state of emergency due to the surge of illegal crossings into our community.
“The City of Eagle Pass is committed to the well being and safety of our local residents,” Salinas said. “We will continue to work with all agencies involved in assisting through this surge of Undocumented Migrants.”
Honorable Mayor Rolando Salinas
This surge in illegal migration is having a significant impact on the Eagle Pass community. Schools, hospitals, and other public services are being strained to the limit. There is also a growing concern about public safety, as criminals are taking advantage of the situation to smuggle drugs and other contraband into the United States.
Mayor Salinas took to social media to update the residents of Eagle Pass. You can see the video by clicking HERE. Be sure to follow The Maverick Times News on all social media platforms.

The federal government needs to do more to address the crisis at the southern border. The Eagle Pass community cannot handle this surge of illegal migration on its own.
