AUSTIN, Texas – Governor elect Gina Hinojosa has asked the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to take no action on a possible transfer of about 1300 acres of public land near SpaceX Starbase operations until she assumes office in January 2027 according to other local news sources and reporting on her first news conference since defeating Gov. Greg Abbott.

Hinojosa said Thursday Nov. 5 that she personally contacted the executive director of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department that morning and confirmed the matter was not on the commission agenda according to other local news sources. “The Valley is so important to me as the place I am from and I will never forget it” Hinojosa said according to other local news sources.

A draft commission agenda had included discussion of the possible disposition of approximately 1300 acres of public land in Cameron County near Boca Chica Beach and SpaceX launch facilities according to other local news sources. The item was later removed from the final agenda and no sale has been approved.

In an October campaign statement on her site Hinojosa opposed reports that the Parks and Wildlife Commission had planned a closed door discussion of selling Boca Chica State Park land involving SpaceX. “Texas is not for sale” she said in that statement.

Hinojosa did not say whether the department had agreed to her pause request or what action her administration might take once she is sworn in Jan. 19 2027 according to other local news sources.
