Two Men Arrested on Felony Drug Charges Following Suspicious Persons Investigation in Del Rio
DEL RIO, Texas — Two Del Rio men were arrested on felony drug charges following an investigation into suspicious individuals reported near Veterans Boulevard late Saturday night.
According to the Del Rio Police Department, officers responded to the 2100 block of Veterans Boulevard at approximately 11:11 p.m. on May 30, 2026, after receiving a report of two suspicious males. The caller advised that one of the individuals had allegedly been seen carrying what appeared to be a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers observed the two individuals leaving the area in a black passenger vehicle traveling southbound on Veterans Boulevard. The vehicle was stopped shortly afterward in the 2000 block of Veterans Boulevard.

Officers made contact with the occupants and informed them of the reason for the investigation. During the encounter, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun inside the passenger side door compartment of the vehicle.
For officer safety, both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle while the weapon was secured. Authorities later determined that the firearm was actually a BB gun.
While speaking with the occupants, officers reportedly observed an open alcoholic beverage container and multiple syringes in plain view on the vehicle floorboard. One of the syringes was uncapped and allegedly contained a dark colored liquid substance.
Both individuals were detained while officers continued their investigation.
A subsequent search of the vehicle reportedly led to the discovery of additional drug paraphernalia, including a spoon containing brown residue, another syringe, and a small plastic baggie containing a brown black tar like substance.

Police said field testing of the substance yielded a positive result for heroin.
As a result of the investigation, Jonathan Elizeo Barron, 26, and Jose Herrera, 47, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B Less Than One Gram, a state jail felony.
Both men were transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing before being transferred to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
