CRYSTAL CITY, TX — Authorities in Zavala County have arrested a local resident following an investigation into alleged threats involving explosive devices and a potential school shooting.
According to the Zavala County Sheriff’s Office, investigators took Geoffrey Moncada of Crystal City into custody on March 6, 2026. The arrest stems from a reported phone call made to a local business during which the caller allegedly threatened to place explosive devices and “shoot” a school campus.

The Zavala County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division coordinated with state and federal law enforcement partners to trace and identify the source of the call. Investigators were able to locate the suspect and carry out the arrest without incident.

Statement From Family
Following the arrest, Moncada’s daughter, Daysha Moncada, released a public statement addressing the allegations and asking the community to consider her father’s mental health condition.
In her statement, Daysha Moncada said her father has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, a mental illness that can significantly affect a person’s perception of reality and behavior.
