Maverick County Invests $1.5 Million in Housing and Community Improvements Through Equity CDC
Over the past three years Maverick County has made targeted investments to improve neighborhoods through a partnership with Equity Community Development Corporation. The work was supported by $1.5 million in funding from the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. County officials said the goal was to improve housing stability and strengthen communities across the county.
The initiative focused on both housing conditions and public services. Leaders said addressing these needs together creates stronger and more lasting results for local families.

Housing Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Efforts
A large share of the funding supported housing improvements throughout Maverick County. Nine homes were rehabilitated using $495,000 in funding. These projects focused on safety repairs and habitability. Families were able to remain in their homes while the work was completed.
Eight additional homes were fully reconstructed at a cost of $660,000. County officials said these projects replaced housing that no longer met basic living standards. The reconstructed homes expanded long-term housing opportunities and improved neighborhood stability.
Officials noted that replacing unsafe housing benefits not only individual families but also surrounding areas by strengthening entire neighborhoods.

Public Services Support for Residents
The county also invested $120,000 in public services delivered in partnership with Equity CDC. These services were designed to support residents beyond housing repairs.
Programs included a community tool lending library and assistance with solid waste and tire removal. Residents also had access to computer classes and construction skills training. Title-related services were offered to help families resolve ownership issues that can affect housing security.
County leaders said these services help residents maintain their homes and build skills that support long-term stability.
County Judge Visits Homes Ahead of Holidays
As the holidays approached Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú visited several completed homes. He met with homeowners and saw the results of the projects firsthand. During the visits the judge shared small holiday gifts as a gesture of support.
County officials said the visits demonstrated a commitment to accountability and follow-through. Leaders emphasized the importance of ensuring public funding produces real improvements for residents.

Officials said similar partnerships will remain a priority as the county continues working to improve living conditions and address housing needs through state and local funding programs.
