26 Migrants Found Locked Inside Abandoned Tractor Trailer in Eagle Pass

Early on September 4, 2024, Maverick County deputies made a startling discovery at a Pilot gas station in Eagle Pass, Texas. While patrolling the area around 12:44 AM, a deputy heard desperate screaming and knocking coming from an abandoned tractor-trailer parked in the rear lot. Upon closer inspection, authorities found 26 migrants locked inside a tanker attached to the trailer.

What Happened

According to the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), deputies quickly responded to the sounds of distress. They climbed atop the tanker and opened its three latches, freeing the individuals trapped inside. Border Patrol Agents were immediately called to the scene to process the migrants, while medical personnel assessed the condition of those rescued. Thankfully, no immediate injuries were reported.

The tanker, which was left abandoned in the gas station parking lot, was later towed to the Maverick County Yard for further investigation.
