EAGLE PASS, TX — A significant increase in known gotaways at the U.S. border has been revealed through recent data obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, highlighting a surge during the Biden administration compared to previous administrations under Obama and Trump. The data covers 13 fiscal years, spanning from 2010 to 2023, and shows a dramatic rise in the number of illegal aliens detected but not apprehended since President Biden took office.
From FY2010 to FY2020, under the Obama and Trump administrations, over 1.4 million known gotaways were recorded. However, the figures have escalated sharply under the Biden administration, with over 1.6 million known gotaways documented in just the three fiscal years from FY2021 to FY2023. The annual numbers have continued to increase, from 387,398 in 2021 to 670,674 in 2023, indicating significant shifts in border management and enforcement strategies.
