Two Mexican Children Found Wandering Alone Near Rio Grande
Two small children were found wandering alone near the Rio Grande on Wednesday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The children, ages 4 and 7, were from Mexico and were carrying a note that had addresses in Alabama. They were found by DPS troopers who were working Operation Lone Star, a joint law enforcement initiative to combat illegal immigration and drug trafficking.
The children were taken to a hospital for evaluation and then released to the custody of the Department of Family and Protective Services.
This is the latest in a series of child migrant rescues by DPS troopers since the implementation of Operation Lone Star. Since January, DPS troopers have rescued over 900 children from human smuggling/trafficking/abandonment events.
