The City of Eagle Pass held a City Council meeting last night with an item on the agenda to evaluate the City Manager George Antuna. Antuna who has been the City Manager since 2019, teared up and announced that he will be submitting his resignation from his position with the City.
The City of Eagle Pass has a long history of giving the option to employees that have be found of wrong doing, resign or be terminated. It makes sense for an employee to take the option of resignation and keep whatever they did out of the local news. This has been a normal practice with the City of Eagle Pass for decades.
Antuna leaves abruptly after the City announced a purchase of buildings in the downtown area. It was this publication’s understanding from an email response from former county judge Pepe Aranda, that the city hired Aranda Real Estate to provide real estate services for the City of Eagle Pass.

We went ahead and made a Texas Public Information Act and we are of the opinion that they may be hiding something due to the contradictory statement made by the Finance Director. In the response sent from the City Secretary’s Office, the finance director states that there is no copy of a check issued to Aranda Real Estate, yet in Aranda’s response, he acknowledges that there was a “transaction”. Another thing to note is that one of the properties the City is purchasing is currently in litigation, which brings up the questions:
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE PROPERTIES ARE CLEAR TO PURCHASE (NOT IN LITIGATION)? WHO IS LITIGATING ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF EAGLE PASS? AND WHO IS THE LITIGATING PARTY OF THE PROPERTY IN LITIGATION THAT THE CITY IS PURCHASING?
