The Eagle Pass Independent School District opened up the registration period for the upcoming November Election. This morning EPISD Board of Trustees WIC Director Lupita Fuentes, Pharmacist Hilda Martinez (Vice-President) and Attorney Victor Perry registered for re-election to the Board of Trustees. The three were supported by the remaining members of the board, Secretary Dr. Hector Alvarez, President Jorge Barrera and trustees Glenna Purcell and Christopher Hiller. Elections are approaching quickly being three months out from November. We have been monitoring discussions about possible candidates that have expressed (publicly or privately) interest in running for a position on the school board. At this time these two names have not been confirmed but have been mentioned in local political discussions: Sylvia Serrano and EPISD recent retiree Luis Sifuentes.
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
The primary elections in March saw the annihilation of an empire with the Saucedo Regime losing the county judge seat, the precinct 2 commissioner seat and failed to take over the precinct 4 commissioner seat. Many in the community are of the opinion that the community has not seen the last of the Saucedo Regime and the School Board elections in November may see a few of their candidates challenge one or all of the current trustees.
In 2018, the Saucedo Regime made a move for the school district versus the same three candidates that have registered for re-election. The trio of Ignacio “Nacho” Saucedo (brother of County Judge David Saucedo), Rex McBeath and Mayito Obregon was shut down by the Team of Fuentes, Martinez and Perry. The closest challenger Obregon was ahead 69 votes in Early Voting ballots but Fuentes pulled out a big election day turnout winning the seat by 178 votes[1]
