FORMER EAGLE PASS FIRE CHIEF HIRED AFTER EIGHT YEAR RETIREMENT
Eagle Pass Fire Chief Manuel Mello announced earlier this week in a City Council Meeting that Former Eagle Pass Fire Chief, Jesus “Chuy” Rodriguez has been hired to fill the role of Emergency Management Specialist after abruptly retiring eight years ago from the city.
He will be reuniting with some family members that have been working with the City of Eagle Pass since before he announced his retirement in 2014. His son Jesse Rodriguez has been the Finance Director for about a decade with the city. According to a Texas Public Information Act request the city provided, he earned $96,144.26 in wages for last fiscal year. He will also be reuniting with his wife, Martha Rodriguez who has worked as an Administrative Clerk with the City of Eagle Pass many years as well. Her earned wages for last fiscal year totaled $28,946.11 (TPIA Request).
We have received some complaints from sources that have reported to us that Martha Rodriguez was transferred under EPPD to avoid “a perceived conflict of interest” with the return of her husband, Jesus Rodriguez to the city.
We have submitted a Texas Public Information Act Request for the following:
- Applications received for the position of emergency management specialist.
- A list of the candidates interviewed for the position of emergency management specialist.
- A list of the names that participated in the interview panel for the position emergency management specialist.
- Documents, notes, evaluation sheets either created or completed by the interview panel for each candidate interviewed in their entirety.
- Jesus “Chuy” Rodríguez personnel file that was maintained with the City of Eagle Pass until his retirement in November 2014.
