Chicago police said three people were killed and 29 others wounded in shootings over Labor Day weekend.

The most recent shooting happened Sunday evening in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and critically injured.

Over an hour earlier, a 6-year-old boy was shot inside a home in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side. The boy was shot in the thigh but is expected to recover.

Three men were shot, one critically, during a shooting in the South Austin neighborhood on Saturday evening.

A man was killed in a Saturday afternoon shooting that followed a crash on the city’s West Side.

Another man was shot to death just over an hour earlier in Englewood.

Detectives were questioning a person of interest after a woman was found dead in a homicide Saturday morning.

A man was fatally shot Friday night in the Armour Square neighborhood.

Two teenagers were shot near Mount Carmel High School shortly after a football game at the Woodlawn neighborhood institution late Friday.

The shootings come as Chicago is experiencing a surge in gun violence. So far this year, there have been more than 2,500 shootings in the city, resulting in more than 500 deaths.
