A man from Maryland, recently released from jail, has been arrested for stealing a 5-ton military vehicle and leading police on a highway chase, according to Harford County authorities. The sheriff’s office received a report of a stolen 1986 923-A 5-ton military vehicle from a private home in Bel Air at around 6:35 p.m. The suspect, identified as Michael D. Stevens II, 38, of Abingdon, drove through Bel Air and onto Interstate 95, with deputies in pursuit. They attempted to disable the vehicle with stop sticks but were unsuccessful. Stevens drove into Baltimore City and eventually stopped on Conkling Street, where he fled the vehicle. He was apprehended by deputies shortly thereafter.

He has been charged with motor vehicle theft, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and failing to obey a lawful order. Stevens had been released from the Harford County Detention Center earlier that day, although it was not made clear when. He appeared in court on Friday and was ordered to be held without bond. A bail review will be held early this week. Stevens’ attorney has not yet commented on the matter.
