EAGLE PASS, Texas – Sul Ross State University International will dedicate its newly built Fort Duncan Hall in Eagle Pass this afternoon, Friday, Oct. 30, according to an invitation shared by the City of Eagle Pass.

The dedication is set for 1:30 p.m. at the new building on Amy Street, according to the invitation. The public was invited through the city’s announcement.

Sul Ross State University International is the arm of Sul Ross State University, a member of the Texas State University System, that serves the border region with campuses in Eagle Pass, Del Rio and Uvalde. It offers upper-level courses leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s degree programs, and works with Southwest Texas Junior College so students can move from an associate degree into a four-year program, according to the university.

A new home on Amy Street

The university began using its new Amy Street building this summer. In June, Sul Ross held parent information sessions there on admissions, enrollment, financial aid and student services, according to a university news release.

The university’s longtime Eagle Pass campus is on Bob Rogers Drive. Sul Ross has not said publicly how classes and offices will be divided between the two locations or what Fort Duncan Hall will house.

The building shares its name with Fort Duncan, the U.S. Army post founded in 1849 that gave rise to Eagle Pass.

Families who want information on programs can contact Sul Ross State University International through sulross.edu.

The opening adds to other education and workforce efforts in the county this fall.
