Schertz Police Officer Terminated After Sexual Assault and Official Oppression Report Filed
SCHERTZ, TX — A Schertz Police officer has been terminated after the department initiated a sexual assault and official oppression report naming him as the alleged suspect. The Texas Rangers are now leading the criminal investigation.
According to the Schertz Police Department, the report was filed on November 14, 2025. The officer, identified as Alberto De La Torre, was removed from duty four days later, on November 18, following a sustained complaint of truthfulness. The department stated that the truthfulness violation was the basis for his termination.

De La Torre served as the department’s K-9 officer. He began his employment with Schertz Police on September 28, 2020.

Presumption of Innocence
Authorities emphasized that De La Torre, as well as every individual involved in the case, is entitled to the presumption of innocence while the investigation remains active. The filing of the report does not mean guilt has been established.
Statement From Police Chief James Lowery
Police Chief James Lowery addressed the matter in a written statement, reinforcing the department’s responsibility to uphold public trust.
“Officers’ rights are important, but so is protecting the public we took an oath to serve and preserving the integrity and public trust of our organization,” Chief Lowery stated.

Texas Rangers Leading Investigation
The Texas Rangers have assumed control of the investigation. The agency will oversee all aspects of the criminal inquiry moving forward.
