Eagle Pass City Council Approves First Reading of Bridge Toll Rate Increase Proposed by Bridge Director David Saucedo

EAGLE PASS, Texas — The Eagle Pass City Council has approved the first reading of an ordinance to raise toll rates at the Eagle Pass Bridge System, moving the cost for non-commercial vehicles from $4 to $5 per crossing. The proposal was presented to the council on Tuesday by Bridge System Director David Saucedo, who said the increase is essential to fund bridge improvements and future expansions.
Saucedo told council members the changes are part of an effort to modernize the toll structure and secure additional revenue for major projects, including the planned expansion of the Camino Real International Bridge.
“The increase is part of our ongoing efforts to create a more organized fee structure and generate additional revenue for necessary bridge improvements,” Saucedo explained during his presentation. “This includes expanding capacity and ensuring the safety and efficiency of our crossings.”

Details of the Ordinance
The ordinance amends Chapter 26, Article VII, Section 26-183 of the City Code. Beginning October 1, 2025, the toll rate for non-commercial vehicles, including passenger cars, trucks, and motorcycles, will rise to $5 per vehicle, or $2.50 per axle.
Trailers pulled by non-commercial vehicles will continue to be charged $2.50 per axle, while motorcycles and carts will be assessed under the same $2.50 per axle or $5 per vehicle rate. Express card users will also see proportional adjustments in line with the new rate structure.

Funding Bridge Improvements
City officials emphasized that the revenue generated will directly support ongoing construction and planned improvements for the Eagle Pass Bridge System. With thousands of travelers crossing the international bridges daily, Saucedo said these funds are critical for maintaining safety standards and expanding infrastructure to meet growing demand.

Next Steps
The ordinance still requires two more readings before it is officially enacted. This process allows time for community members to provide input on the proposed changes before final approval.
If adopted, the new toll rates would take effect October 1, marking the first adjustment to passenger vehicle tolls in several years.
