Eagle Pass Eagles Power Past CC Winn Mavericks in 19th Annual Rivalry Game

EAGLE PASS, Texas — Under the Friday night lights, the Eagle Pass Eagles showcased offensive firepower and defensive discipline to secure victory over the CC Winn Mavericks in the 19th annual installment of Eagle Pass’s cross-town rivalry. While Eagle Pass posted dominant numbers on both sides of the ball, CC Winn’s game statistics were not made readily available by staff, leaving only part of the rivalry picture fully documented.
Barrera and Flores Lead the Charge
Senior quarterback Xavier Barrera turned in a commanding performance, completing 15 of 19 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown. He also added 65 rushing yards and a score, finishing with 255 total yards. His efficiency was complemented by sophomore backup Jay Jacquez, who went 6 of 9 for 65 yards through the air.
The ground game was anchored by senior Luis Flores, who shredded Winn’s defense for 109 rushing yards and three touchdowns on just nine carries. Sophomore Avery Embry also contributed 27 yards and a touchdown as Eagle Pass piled up 219 rushing yards and five scores.

Air Attack Balanced the Offense
The Eagles’ receiving corps spread the field and made key plays throughout the night. Senior S. Velasquez led all receivers with 70 yards and a touchdown, while senior Jesus Barba caught five passes for 62 yards. Sophomore Jeremiah Silva added 42 yards on four catches, and sophomore J. Hernandez chipped in 32 yards on two receptions.
In total, Eagle Pass collected 255 passing yards and 250 receiving yards, producing a balanced attack that kept CC Winn on its heels.
Defensive Domination
Eagle Pass’s defense complemented the offense with 72 total tackles and four sacks. Junior A. Hernandez delivered two sacks, while senior Angel Salazar and sophomore I. Rodriguez each added one. Senior Ryan Rea contributed across the board with seven total tackles, a pass deflection, and a key defensive presence in coverage.
The Eagles also forced turnovers, including a recovered fumble by sophomore Ricardo Garcia, and a blocked punt that swung momentum in their favor.

Special Teams Spark
Senior kicker Ivan Cruz had a standout night, hitting all six of his PATs and nailing a 47-yard field goal. He accounted for nine points, giving the Eagles a reliable leg to finish drives.
