UPDATED 7:03 AM – EAGLE PASS, Texas — A powerful anonymous post from an Eagle Pass ISD educator has sparked concerns over potential political pressure, intimidation, and misuse of authority within the school district. The educator, fearing retaliation, took to social media to voice their concerns, revealing a disturbing picture of alleged manipulation and favoritism involving school administrators.
The anonymous post specifically names Eagle Pass ISD Superintendent Samuel Mijares and Victor Losoya, an attendance officer at Eagle Pass Junior High School. According to the educator, Mijares is closely aligned with Councilwoman Monica Cruz, who is currently involved in a hotly contested mayoral runoff race.
The educator claims that Losoya, described as Monica’s “unqualified bff,” was hired as an attendance officer despite lacking the necessary qualifications. The post accuses Losoya of abusing his position, behaving in an arrogant and “bossy” manner, and boasting about his connections with Superintendent Mijares. The educator alleges that Losoya takes extended lunch breaks and spends most of his time engaging in gossip instead of fulfilling his duties.
Furthermore, the educator accuses Mijares of being involved in politics, particularly in the ongoing city election, and pressuring school staff on how to vote. The post alleges that supervisors within the school district have been instructed to influence teachers and staff regarding their voting choices, causing anxiety and fear among employees.
“I am not alone, we teachers and school employees are tired of fearing for our jobs. It should not be this way,” the anonymous educator wrote. They emphasized the need for teachers to exercise their right to vote without fear of retaliation.
The post also questions the qualifications of Losoya, suggesting that his primary value lies in his close relationship with Monica Cruz. Critics argue that this is yet another example of political favoritism undermining the integrity of the school district.
In the image accompanying the post, Mijares is seen dining with Monica Cruz and Losoya, further fueling speculation about their close ties. This visual evidence has raised concerns among educators who feel pressured to support specific political candidates due to the influence of school leadership.
This situation has reignited longstanding concerns over political interference in school district operations and the potential abuse of power by those in leadership positions.
Monica Cruz has yet to respond to the allegations. The school district has not issued an official statement addressing the anonymous post, and it remains unclear whether any investigation will be launched. Superintendent Samuel Mijares responded to the allegations by calling them, “ridiculous”.
The Maverick Times is continuing to investigate this developing story and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
Community Reaction
Parents, teachers, and community members are now questioning whether political connections are influencing hiring practices and management decisions within Eagle Pass ISD. Some have expressed concern that qualified educators may be overlooked in favor of those with personal or political ties to district leadership.
One local resident commented, “We send our kids to school to learn, not to be part of someone’s political game. Our educators deserve better, and our students deserve a safe, unbiased learning environment.”
As the city prepares for a crucial mayoral runoff election, the growing concerns over political favoritism within the school district have become a focal point of public discussion.
