Robert Garza’s story is one of perseverance, dedication, and service, deeply rooted in a family legacy that embodies the American dream. With his candidacy for House District 74, Garza brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges facing Texans, particularly those living along the border.

A Family Legacy of Hard Work and Community Service

Robert’s family journey began in 1918, when his grandparents immigrated from Mexico to Texas and settled in Kinney County. With no formal education, Robert’s grandfather started a small fruit stand, a humble venture that sustained the family and contributed to the local community. Robert’s father, Joe N. Garza, later took over the family business and expanded it into a full-service grocery store that became a cornerstone of Brackettville. Joe Garza was a well-respected community leader, serving in various elected offices in Kinney County, and his commitment to public service had a profound influence on Robert from an early age.

A Career in Service and Leadership

Robert Garza’s passion for public service was sparked while working alongside his father in the family business and volunteering for his dad’s campaigns. He pursued higher education at the University of Texas at Austin and earned his law degree from St. Mary’s School of Law. After completing his education, Robert returned to Brackettville, where he served on the city council before moving to Del Rio, a community he has proudly called home for over 40 years.

In Del Rio, Robert has worn many hats—serving as mayor for four years, city councilman for eight years, city attorney for five years, and president of the San Felipe Del Rio CISD Board of Trustees during his two terms on the board. His civic engagement extended to leadership roles in the Val Verde County Appraisal District, where he served as both director and president.

A Vision for House District 74

Robert Garza’s extensive experience in civic leadership has given him a unique perspective on the issues facing House District 74. He has witnessed firsthand the impact of the Biden administration’s border policies and the strain it has placed on communities along the Texas border. As a result, Robert is committed to finding Texas-led solutions that address the border crisis, strengthen border security, and alleviate the burden on local communities.

His platform centers on championing conservative policies that resonate with the needs of his constituents. Robert is dedicated to reducing the cost of living for Texas families, bringing meaningful property tax relief, supporting law enforcement, combating human and drug trafficking, and strengthening the education system to ensure a brighter future for Texas children.

Family Values and Community Ties

Family is at the heart of Robert Garza’s life. He is the proud father of five children and grandfather to five grandchildren. His oldest daughter, Nichole, is a Physician’s Assistant married to Roland Rodriguez, III, a U.S. Border Patrol agent. His son, Robert, is an attorney specializing in intellectual property law in Austin, while Raphael, another of his sons, practices probate and estate law in Houston.
