Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) Troopers apprehended a group of 101 individuals attempting to cross the border illegally in Eagle Pass, Texas. Among the group were 25 unaccompanied children, ranging in age from 3 to 15 years old, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian crisis at the border. Additionally, 29 individuals were arrested for criminal trespass as part of the operation.

Breakdown of the Arrests and Recovery

The individuals apprehended were from a diverse set of countries, including Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, Venezuela, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Brazil. The 29 individuals arrested for criminal trespass were transported to the Val Verde Processing Center for further processing.

The 25 unaccompanied minors, along with family groups present in the group, were referred to U.S. Border Patrol for appropriate handling and care. Unaccompanied children often face unique vulnerabilities, and their recovery is a priority in the ongoing border security efforts.

Collaboration with U.S. Border Patrol

The operation is another example of the collaborative efforts between TxDPS and U.S. Border Patrol as they work to manage the increasing number of illegal crossings and ensure the safety of unaccompanied children. The children will now be under the care of federal agencies, where efforts will be made to reunite them with family members or provide safe shelter.

Ongoing Border Security Challenges

This incident underscores the complexity of managing the southern border, with a mixture of family units, unaccompanied minors, and individuals seeking to cross illegally. Law enforcement agencies are working to enforce border security while addressing the humanitarian needs that arise from such large groups, particularly the safety of children traveling without guardians.

Texas authorities continue to strengthen their border patrol efforts, often working in tandem with federal agencies, to maintain order and prevent illegal crossings while providing necessary assistance to vulnerable groups like unaccompanied minors.
